About The Show
Interesting facts: Big Brother 8 in 2007 was the eighth series of the United Kingdom reality television programme Big Brother, airing on Channel 4, with a number of closely associated programmes also airing on E4. The series began on 30 May 2007 when eleven female housemates entered the House and ended 94 days later on 31 August 2007. A male housemate joined two days later, with a further two male housemates being added a week after that. Another four men joined on 15 June. Five new housemates then entered the House on Day 59: three females, and two males. They went to a new House next door called "The Halfway House” and stayed in the Halfway House until Day 62.
This was the first Big Brother series to air in the UK since the controversial 2007 Celebrity Big Brother, and a number of changes had been made to the show, including the omission of text message voting, and a reduction in the cost of calls to vote for evictions from 50p to 25p. At least 10p from each vote was going to charity.
Brian Belo won the series, Beating bookies favourite Amanda and Sam in the final vote.

About The Show
Interesting facts: Big Brother 7 in 2006 was the seventh series of the United Kingdom reality television series Big Brother. It aired on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom, from 18 May 2006 to 18 August 2006, a total of 93 days.
The show format was unchanged from previous years. A number of housemates lived in a purpose-built House at Elstree Studios, and were isolated from the rest of the world. Each week, housemates nominated two of their peers for eviction, and the housemates who received the most nominations would face a public vote. Of these, one would eventually leave, having been "evicted" from the House. However, there were exceptions to this process as dictated by Big Brother, known as "twists". In the final week, there were six housemates remaining, and the public voted for who they wanted to win. Pete Bennett received the most votes, and won the prize money of £100,000.
During the first three weeks of the series, Channel 4 conducted a promotion in conjunction with Nestle to distribute 100 golden tickets randomly throughout Kit Kat chocolate bars, in a style reminiscent of the story Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Members of the public finding these tickets were permitted to use them to give themselves a chance to become a Big Brother housemate and bypass the standard auditions process.
Golden ticket holders were invited the television show where one of them, Susie Verrico, was chosen to enter the House by Aisleyne picking a ball out of a machine at random.
This contest caused some controversy, with the Advertising Standards Authority saying that the terms and conditions of the draw should have been made clearer in related advertisements, and that an independent adjudicator should have been present before and during the draw.

About The Show
Interesting facts: The sixth series of Big Brother appeared in 2005 and followed the same premise to the previous five series. Broadcast on Channel 4, a number of housemates live in an isolated purpose-built House and try to avoid being evicted by public vote, with the aim of winning a large cash prize. Big Brother 2005 ran for eleven weeks, at the time the longest the programme had lasted (subsequent series extended the duration to thirteen weeks). The sixth series began on 27 May 2005 and ended on 12 August of the same year.
Channel 4 confirmed that Big Brother would return for a sixth series in March 2005.Within that announcement the channel revealed that host Davina McCall, Big Brother's Little Brother presenter Dermot O'Leary, and Big Brother's Big Mouth (called Big Brother's EForum the previous year) host Russell Brand would return along with the show.
Soon after, Channel 4 programming director Kevin Lygo told the press that Big Brother 5's "evil" theme would not return despite its success the previous year and that the programme would be renewed for 2006 and beyond. In April, Channel 4 revealed the eye for the series, a sliced mirror of alternating black and blue strips, in reality two eyes on top of each other. This helped fuel rumours about two houses, an idea that although never coming to fruition, was put into practice during the 2003 series of Big Brother in Australia.
The countdown to the start of Big Brother began at 18 days rather than the usual 10 days before launch. Channel 4 contradicted itself two days before the launch show, confirming that Big Brother 6 would, in fact, be evil. The broadcaster also told the press that there would be thirteen housemates with a theme of "unlucky thirteen," inspired by triskaidekaphobia.
On day 29 a Secret Garden was used when Kinga Karolczak, Orlaith McAllister and Eugene Sully secretly entered the House, minutes after Roberto Conte was evicted. They had to live in the Secret Garden for several days, with only Makosi knowing their existence.
The Secret Garden was landscaped like a jungle, and the three secret housemates were initially supplied with fig leaves to cover the main essentials of their bodies. It was similar to the idea of an Adam and Eve existence. With Makosi's help, they had to secretly steal clothes and food from the main Big Brother House when the other housemates were asleep, so they wouldn’t find out about them.
The secret housemates were forced to live in the garden for several days. At the end of their stay, Makosi had to choose two of the three secret housemates to enter the main house. She chose Orlaith and Eugene, although Kinga re-entered the House after Orlaith walked out on Day 65.

About The Show
Interesting facts: Big Brother turned ‘evil’ in series 5. A number of Housemates live in an isolated house trying to avoid being evicted by the public with the aim of winning a large cash prize. The series began on 28 May 2004, and ended on 6 August in the same year. However this year the House was smaller and more claustrophobic; there was only one bedroom; and the prize money of £100,000 was reduced if housemates failed their tasks.
Big Brother promised tougher challenges as well as surprises to test the minds of housemates. The show’s makers were initially criticised for choosing contestants specifically to boost ratings, opting for people that were openly gay (Marco, Dan and Kitten), a transsexual (Nadia), a former asylum seeker (Ahmed), and a person who claimed to be bisexual (Jason, although he later revealed that this had been a fabrication to improve his chances of being selected). Becki, however, was in fact bisexual. These criticisms soon dissipated to a large extent as the personalities of the Housemates overshadowed these issues.
The main twist to Big Brother 5 was the fluctuating prize fund. Housemates could either win or lose money depending on how well they completed the task. As the winner, transsexual Nadia received £63,500, meaning that the Housemates lost £36,500 during the 71 days they were in the house.

About The Show
Interesting facts: The fourth instalment of Big Brother UK was aired in 2003. Once again a number of housemates were forced to live in an isolated house with the ever watching public choosing who to evict. The last remaining housemate would take home a large cash prize. The series ran from Friday 23 May to Friday 25 July 2003.
Four housemates were nominated on the opening night after the housemates were told to make instant nominations based on first impressions, every housemate who received even one nomination faced the public vote; of the four nominated, Anouska was evicted one week later.
In another surprise housemate, Cameron Stout, accepted a mystery challenge from Big Brother, which meant spending a week in the Big Brother Africa House (one of the African housemates, Gaetano, spent some time in the UK House in return)[1].
In a frantic final two weeks there was a surprise double eviction, a new housemate and already evicted housemate Jon Tickle returned to the House. (He was not eligible to win, though he opted not to tell his housemates this). The £70,000 prize was eventually won by Cameron.
Cameron Stout, Jon Tickle and Ray Shah went on to have successful careers in the media industry. Cameron Stout is an occasional columnist with The Sunday Post newspaper and has appeared in panto in Aberdeen, Jon Tickle co-presents Brainiac: Science Abuse on UK television's Sky One, now in its fourth series and Ray Shah now works in the radio, television and entertainment industry in Ireland. He presents radio shows on Dublin's Q102 and TV shows on City Channel. Ray also works as a club DJ playing at venues around Ireland.
The reaction to this series was poor, the press and viewers finding the housemates boring. Endemol turned "evil" and selected more extreme housemates the next year.
In a poll aired on E4 on 13 May 2006, Gos was voted the least popular housemate of all time.

About The Show
Interesting facts: Big Brother 3 was the third series of Big Brother UK. The series started on 24 May 2002, ending on 26 July 2002 and the final of this series drew 10.0 million viewers. Votes in the final week totalled 8.6 million.[1] This series of Big Brother is often credited with the demise of Channel 4 soap Brookside which even though prior to Big Brother 3 had been moved around the schedules was shunted about even more to accommodate Channel 4's new ratings winner.
The third series saw two early walkouts by housemates Sunita and Sandy. Sandy surprised his fellow housemates (as well as the production team) by urinating in a bin, scaling a wall and escaping over a roof while the rest of the housemates watched the England v Nigeria World Cup group game. Sunita was replaced by Sophie, and Sandy by Tim.
For a period, the House was split in two, creating 'rich' and 'poor' houses. Those on one side had more luxuries and better food than those on the other. A weekly task, shown live on Saturday nights, determined which housemates lived on which side of the divide.

About The Show
Interesting facts: After the huge success of Big Brother 1, Big Brother 2 appeared on UK screens in the summer of 2001. It followed on from the first series, which saw a number of housemates live in an isolated House trying to avoid being evicted by the public with the aim of winning a large cash prize. It aired on Channel 4, from 25 May 2001 to 27 July 2001, lasting 64 days.
In a twist to the show, an 11th housemate entered the House two weeks later (Day 16) - as the result of a public vote, in which Josh Rafter was chosen out of 3 wildcard housemates as the 11th contestant. During the first week, at the end of each episode, clips were shown of all three possible housemates:
• Josh, who claimed "to have made a million and then lost it";
• Anne, an older woman who promised sense and maturity in the house, and a "late night talker";
• Natasha, a fiery young girl who promised "naughtiness" and other late-night antics
The trio were not allowed to watch the show or find out what was happening in the House until the winner of the vote entered so they were taken to Portugal up to that point.
Interest grew over original housemates and lovebirds Paul Clarke and Helen Adams. They grew closer over the time they spent in the House and their relationship helped make the show even more popular. The tabloids speculated on the possibility of their indulging in their sexual shenanigans. in a manner similar to that seen in the show's continental equivalent.
The quick wit of Irish housemate Brian Dowling also became an instant hit with viewers. Brian went on to win the series, and launch a successful television career. The public's continued affection for him was illustrated by being voted the most popular Big Brother housemate from Series 1 to 5 in 2005. Brian went on to become the first openly gay man to present a children's television show in the UK when he joined SMTV Live.
Helen and Paul, after 5 years together, have since separated, citing a lack of time apart as the reason for the breakup.

About The Show
Interesting facts: Big Brother 1 first hit UK screens on 14 July 2000; it was the first series of the hit reality show shown on Channel 4. The British public watched the housemates living in the isolated House and would evict their least favourite housemate each week. The housemate who managed to avoid eviction would win a large cash prize at the end of the series.
The series started on 14 July 2000 and ran for 9 weeks until 15 September 2000. Its most notorious moment occurred when attempts to influence voting by Nick Bateman (whom the tabloids nicknamed Nasty Nick) were uncovered by other housemates, who confronted him in a House meeting. The last remaining housemate was Craig Phillips who was crowned the winner taking home £70,000.

About The Show
Interesting facts: Big Brother's Big Mouth, formerly named Big Brother's Eforum, was introduced with Big Brother 5 and was hosted by Russell Brand. The first series of the show was broadcast at 7:30 pm on E4 before being moved to a post-watershed slot, immediately after the Channel 4 highlights show, where it has since remained. A studio audience of fans and two celebrity guests discuss the latest happenings in the Big Brother House, while viewers are able to contribute via phone, e-mail, text polls, or by leaving a message on the 24-hour 'Mouthpiece' rant line. As of 2007, Brand no longer presented this show and the guest presenters James Corden and Mathew Horne fronted the show during January's Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack however they have only returned for Week 9 of the 2008 series.
During this series, the show was temporarily renamed "Big Mouth with Davina" when it was fronted during the final week by Davina McCall. After his Week One and Week Twelve stints on the 2008 Big Mouth, Jack Whitehall presented the 2009 Celebrity Big Brother Edition full time. Davina McCall has been confirmed as the host for the 2009 series, which will have a revised format and will see the show move to a weekly hour long slot after the eviction show.
A similar spinoff has been introduced in the 2008 Australian version of Big Brother. However, Big Mouth has been used as a replacement of the 'Adults Only' program, which has been broadcasted at a later time slot, in an uncut and unrated presentation.
Big Brother's Big Mouth also had a Bulgarian version during Big Brother 3 Bulgaria, and it will return with a new conception during VIP Brother 3.
Characters
During the series presented by Brand, several regular characters were featured on the show.
That Whale: That Whale is an anthropomorphic whale who speaks with a Scouse accent. He shows little interest in Big Brother but seems adamant that he has a right to be on the show and still turns up regardless.
Rosebud the Horse: Rosebud the Horse is a very polite and well-spoken character who allegedly lives with Brand in his home, in which he works as his slave and is often mistreated and forced to carry out perverted misdemeanours by members of the "Womanising Circuit" including Beppe di Marco, Dean Gaffney and David Walliams. He dresses in the style of a country gent, with tweed jacket, smart shirt and tie. He is often treated badly by Brand; in one episode he slapped him in the face.
Little Jon Connell: Little Jon Connell (born 1989 in Liverpool) normally appears in a scientist's lab coat to conduct a variety of experiments. His contraptions, which illustrate a number of Big Brother-related findings based on his scientific research, are regularly vilified and destroyed by Brand. Jon Connell is known as a Big Brother expert, having appeared on the show since the age of 15, first as a panellist on 'EFourum' then later in a regular slot entitled 'The Connell Files'.
Little Paul Scholes: Little Paul Scholes was a small doll with ginger hair, a nasal voice and snub nose, in a reference to the football player Paul Scholes. The doll was usually in the programme for a few minutes after the break in occasional shows and has a short conversation (often centring around his mistreatment) with Brand, usually resulting in him being hit off the bench or sat on. He died in the final Big Brother's Big Mouth of Celebrity Big Brother 2007 following the live final.
According to Brand, when he recorded a one-off special charting the previous seven series of the show, all of these characters have died. This was Brand's last time presenting as a Big Brother host.
Russell's ballbags: Russell's scrotum, that seems to live a sensational life separate from him. One of them is the "younger, shyer bag", and the other is the "older, more confident bag". They were characters throughout series 7 and were replaced by some new "Dicksacks" for the 2007 Celebrity edition of the show.
Big Kenneth: A friend of That Whale. Big Kenneth has appeared on the show once with That Whale in an attempt to beat up Brand and has also been round to Brand's house in an incident that may have led to an assault upon Beppe.
Big Brother 8 saw the introduction of the 'Eyepiece', for which viewers were invited to send in their views via mobile phone video messaging. During this series, the show aired four nights a week with a series of guest presenters hosting the show for weekly stints.

The series started on 3 January 2008 and ended on 28 January 2008; It was announced on 8 October 2007 by Channel 4 that it would be replacing Celebrity Big Brother in January 2008, due to the widely publicised racism controversy in 2007.
A different celebrity each day took control of the housemates who ranged in age from 18–21 years old. With the help of Big Brother the celebrity would organise their own tasks, make their own rules and talk to the housemates in the Diary Room. Interesting facts: Big Brother's Little Brother (also known as BBLB) is a magazine television programme that airs on Channel 4 and E4, running in conjunction with each series of Big Brother. It was presented by Dermot O'Leary until January 2008. It is currently hosted by George Lamb and Michael Barrymore but between 6 June and 25 July 2008 Zezi Ifore was a co-presenter. The programme looks at Big Brother-related activities outside The House and features interviews with celebrities, journalists and friends and family of housemates, and sometimes recently evicted housemates. The show is filmed in The George Lucas Stage at Elstree Studios, which is only a short walk from the main house itself.
The show was first aired on 29 May 2001 as a part of Big Brother 2, Natalie Casey was a co-host with O'Leary for the first week that year. It is shown every Sunday morning as part of Channel 4's T4 slot as well as on E4 during the week.
For Celebrity Big Brother 2006, broadcast in January 2006, Big Brother's Little Brother was moved to a morning slot of 8:00 am on Channel 4 and renamed Big Brother's Little Breakfast. It was moved back to its previous timeslot on E4 for Big Brother 7 and subsequent series.
Features
Over the years, Big Brother's Little Brother has had many features introduced from quizzes to secret cameras. The following is a list of some of the items the show has launched:
• The George Lamb Diary Room Challenge - A quiz and challenge feature run during Celebrity BB 6 to determine the ultimate BB Superfan. The winner would get the chance to have an access all areas tour, meet Davina and go into the Diary Room for a chat with Big Brother. The final round took place on Tuesday 20th Jan and featured the winners of the two semi finals. Sonny from Canterbury was the first contestant to reach the final.
• Big Brother's News 24 - featured on all series of the show. Lamb reports on recent news items, with accompanying video clips.
• Little Brother's Big Answer, formerly known as Little Brother's Big Shout and BBLB Forum - At the start of the show, viewers are invited to call, text, e-mail, and appear via webcam, to give opinions on topical issues about The House. This is the final item on the show, and the discussion will usually include any celebrity guests that appear on the show. Zezi often complains about the computer not working.
• A Hidden Camera section, where footage is shown from a camera hidden within an object in The House. The first of these was Fridge Cam, which appeared during the third Celebrity series. Gnome Cam followed in (BB6), where a hidden camera was placed within a garden gnome. Queen Cam was hidden in the eye of a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, and, most recently, Bunny Cam was added to a rabbit-sculptured topiary. Bunny Cam was later destroyed by BB7 housemate Glyn as he used it to climb down from the roof of The House.
• The Insider - is a man that stands behind a wall of frosted glass. The Insider often reveals exclusive news, such as nominations results and unexpected twists or tasks. The Insider's identity is unknown. He is not in BB9.
• The B-Team - A parody of the A-Team, four ex-housemates present a video clip, in which they interview people about their thoughts of the events in The House. It originated in Celebrity Big Brother 5 with former Big Brother 7 housemates Glyn Wise, Lea Walker, Shahbaz and Spiral. For Big Brother 8, Walker was replaced with Nikki Grahame.

About The Show
Interesting facts: Celebrity Big Brother 2007 was the fifth series of the UK’s Celebrity Big Brother. The series was broadcast on Channel 4 and involved a number of celebrities referred to as 'housemates', who live in the Big Brother House with no contact with the outside world. Celebrity Big Brother 2007 started on 3 January 2007, and ran for 26 days. The launch show peaked at 8.2 million viewers, making it the second most-watched launch in Big Brother history.
On 16 January 2007 this series had attracted the largest ever number of public complaints to the UK broadcasting watchdog Ofcom about a Big Brother series. The complaints raised concerns that housemate Shilpa Shetty had been subjected to bullying, allegedly with undertones of racism. Comments made by some Big Brother housemates sparked widespread anger and demonstrations in India, where the alleged racism was reported on the news, and led Big Brother's main sponsor Carphone Warehouse to suspend its sponsorship of the show.
As of 19 January 2007, a Channel 4 spokesman agreed that the housemates should be made aware of the controversy, explaining the apologies tendered by the housemates. On 28 January 2007, Shetty was voted the winner of Celebrity Big Brother 2007 with 63% of the final vote.
As in earlier series, Davina McCall presented the main Channel 4 show. Dermot O'Leary presented Celebrity Big Brother's Little Brother and Celebrity Big Brother's Big Brain. Russell Brand presented Celebrity Big Brother's Big Mouth. Celebrity Big Brother Diary Room Uncut, and live streaming also returned on the Official Channel 4 website and also on E4 at selected times.
This was the fifth series of the reality show (in the celebrity format), and after a brief pause in 2008 for Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack (available on E4 only) the sixth series was shown in January 2009.

About The Show
Interesting facts: Celebrity Big Brother 2006 was the fourth series of Celebrity Big Brother, which started on 5 January 2006 and finished on 27 January 2006, running for three weeks. The series aired on Channel 4 and was the first series of Big Brother UK to be produced by Brighter Pictures, a subsidiary of Endemol UK.
The first housemate to enter The House (and the eventual winner) was Chantelle, a girl from Essex and the first non-celebrity in a celebrity series. Big Brother set her the task of convincing her celebrity housemates that she was actually a genuine celebrity herself – failure would have meant that she would have been evicted on Day Four. She was told to play a fictitious character from the made-up girl band "Kandy Floss", and that her biggest 'hit' was "I Want It Right Now". She succeeded in convincing the other housemates, and was allowed to stay.
This series was fraught with comedy and conflict between the housemates, Pete Burns’ fur coat was also a hot talking point. Big Brother occasionally played on the conflict, or widening the already-present rift between the housemates by encouraging each side to deceive one another in various events.
By the time of the series Finale, six housemates remained in The House. This was a first in Big Brother UK history and the next (non-celebrity) series, series 7, also adopted this format.

About The Show
Interesting facts: Big Brother Panto brought together ten housemates from previous Big Brothers to produce the pantomime Cinderella. It aired from 20 December 2004 to 5 January 2005 on the Channel 4 network. The pantomime performed, Cinderella, was written by Jonathan Harvey, who wrote the sitcom Gimme Gimme Gimme. It was performed at a theatre near to The Lodge.
Big Brother Panto was presented by Jeff Brazier. It was broadcast each night on E4 at 10pm and repeated the following morning in the T4 slot on Channel 4. On 28 December there was a live show on E4 at 11am where comments and suggestions from the public were read to the housemates. The finale aired at 9pm on E4. The housemates went home twice, firstly from 23 to 27 December and secondly from 30 December to 3 January to spend Christmas and New Year at home. Unlike all other Big Brother series, there were no evictions and no winner. In addition, there was no live streaming. The only public vote was to decide who would play Cinderella.
On 27 December, Channel 4 accidentally broadcast the first half of the late-night E4 show, containing adult language and content, pre-watershed on T4. They later apologised. Big Brother Panto was sponsored by TalkTalk.

About The Show
Interesting facts: Dermot O’Leary presented Teen Big Brother, a UK spin off of the popular television program Big Brother in which teenagers inhabited the Big Brother House.
Broadcast in October 2003, Teen Big Brother was trailed as 'The Experiment' featuring eight 18-year-olds; Teen Big Brother was originally shot in advance over the course of ten days during July and August 2003, to air as an educational item and to be screened as part of Channel 4's 4Learning programming. The tasks were created to promote values such as cooperation and team spirit. Topics like politics and religion were also discussed. Once edited the footage was thought to be compelling enough for a more mass-market time slot, so the show was moved ahead to October 2003 and was formatted to be shown over one week (five episodes).
Teen Big Brother was different from the original Big Brother UK series in a number of ways. Since it was pre-recorded, the contestants themselves and not the audience decided which Housemates were to be evicted. At the end, the eventual winner of a grand prize was decided by group decision (a cash prize was replaced by a round-the-world trip). No alcohol or cigarettes were allowed. The basic premise of the show, however, remained the same, and no special treatment was made for the Housemates.
On Day Six/Seven, Jade Dyer and Tommy Wright became the first Housemates in the history of Big Brother UK to have sex on the show. According to The Independent, this was the first real-life sexual act shown on British television (although nothing explicit was seen; the two were under bedcovers). This sparked controversy in the British media and comment on teenage safe sex education.
Paul Brennan was voted the winner, and selected Caroline Cloke to accompany him in sharing the prize of a fully-paid three-month round-the-world tour. He also won a period of work experience with a New York fashion designer.
An edited version of Teen Big Brother – The Experiment was eventually broadcast in January 2004 as part of 4Learning's morning schedule and was designed with formal curriculum teaching in mind. The incident featuring Jade and Tommy did not appear in this edit.
